In 1920 Adi Dassler made his first sport shoes following three guiding principles: to produce the best shoe to serve the need of the sport, to protect the athlete from injury, and to make the product durable. In 1948 Adi introduced adidas as the official company name and gave his shoes the trademark of Three Stripes.
